2020 Alphonse Mellot 'Edmond' Sancerre
Grand Cru energy, Sancerre soul. The 2020 Edmond from Alphonse Mellot isn’t just a Sauvignon Blanc—it’s a statement piece, sourced from the family’s oldest vines in their flagship La Moussière vineyard and crafted by the 18th and 19th generations of Loire royalty. If you think you know Sancerre, this bottle will recalibrate your palate.
Velvety, concentrated, and explosively aromatic, Edmond layers lemon meringue, apricot, vanilla, almond croissant, and lime zest over a base of flinty minerality and creamy depth. Fermented in oak and aged with care, it’s a Sancerre with Burgundy bones—rich, textural, and undeniably age-worthy.
Certified biodynamic and farmed from high-elevation Kimmeridgian limestone soils, this is the top tier of Loire Sauvignon Blanc, full stop. Pair it with seared scallops and caramelized chicory—or just let it dazzle on its own.
Rare, regal, and totally revelatory. Grab 3+ bottles for the full experience—this is one to cellar, sip, and savor.
Vinous
The 2020 Sancerre Cuvée Edmond is a rich, ripe wine that reflects this hot vintage. It's a big wine, and if you were to taste blind, it would not be apparent that it's from Sancerre. Impressive, firm, structured and grippy, it's full of firepower. A touch of green on the finish reminds you this is Sauvignon Blanc, but otherwise, it'd be difficult to place. I think this is a really great wine, but with the alcohol and the richness, it's not easy to drink, and that's reflected in my rating. This is 100% matured in wood - half in large format and half in small format.
