2023 Cliff Lede Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley
From select Napa Valley sites, this blend of 77% Sauvignon Blanc and 23% Sémillon delivers both vibrancy and depth. Fermented in French oak (29% new) and stainless steel, then aged on the lees with gentle bâtonnage, it offers aromas of lime blossom, grapefruit, and elderflower. The palate layers kiwi, lychee, pear, and white peach with a creamy note of orange marmalade, finishing long with brioche, beeswax, and crystalline minerality. A radiant, textural white that’s as elegant as it is refreshing.
Since founding his namesake winery in 2002, Cliff Lede has put every emphasis on creating a world-class wine estate. With 60 acres under vine throughout the Stags Leap District, a state-of-the-art winemaking facility and a team that includes famed viticulturist David Abreu and winemaker Chris Tynan, every detail has been considered in an attempt to take Bordeaux varietals to a whole new level. A rock and roll attitude that harnesses the energy and spark of the New World while channeling values of the great Old World winemaking properties, his wines are intrinsically connected to the land with a fresh view point that is both progressive and timely. The wine world is changing, and Cliff Lede and his team are at the forefront of the movement.
James Suckling
A mouth-filling wine with more breadth and fruity richness than many others. 23% semillon helps round it out and adds slightly honeyed and lemon verbena flavors to the nicely balanced tang of the sauvignon blanc. Medium-bodied in terms of alcohol, with a lingering finish. Drink now or hold.
Wine Spectator
Fresh and mouthwatering up front, with notes of orange blossoms, fresh lime sherbet and lemon zest showing plenty of oomph and intensity on a sleek frame. Hints of lemon verbena, sea salt and lemon balm linger on the finish.
