2021 Lewis Cellars 'Reserve' Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Vibrant bright color and fresh ripe fruits sing from the start with melted currants, rose petal and cassis. Juicy, fresh and youthful in character with a rich berry core the wine stays rooted with softly polished tannins and tailing café macchiato flavors.
“Lewis' style is a supersized, pedal-to-the-metal, open-throttle expression of flavor. Those characteristics run throughout the winery's lineup…Few wineries perform as consistently as Lewis." - Wine Spectator Randy Lewis spent a 23-year career pushing personal and mechanical limits as a race car driver, beginning as a Formula 3 driver in Europe. That’s where he fell in love with fine wine. He founded Lewis Cellars in 1992, and today he and his winemaker Josh Widaman, formerly of Pahlmeyer, are making the best wines in the history of the estate. In short, these are some of the most popular Napa Valley wines Bounty Hunter offers. They’re unrestrained, voluptuous wines that consistently score in the mid-to-high 90s. The feedback we get from you is enthusiastic across the board.
Wine Advocate
The large-scaled, opulent 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers up notes of cedar, dark chocolate and cassis but also a distinct hint of bell pepper on the nose. Full-bodied, lush and supple, there's a lot to like on the palate, where the slightly green note is less distracting. Best After 2023.
Wine Spectator
Plush, dark and winey, with a broad wave of steeped black currant, blackberry paste and dark plum reduction infused with hints of wood spice, anise and apple wood. Shows serious grip on the finish, with a smoldering cocoa hint that adds to the bass line. For fans of the big style. Best from 2024 through 2037. 1,200 cases made.
James Suckling
Opaque, dark and brooding. Lots of wood and extraction here, with sandalwood, incense and blackberries. Violets, raisins and dark chocolate on the palate, with lots of sweet blackberries. Chewy and dense. Try after 2025.
