Clos Rousseau is a nearly 24-hectare vineyard on the southern border of Santenay, close to Maranges. This wine in particular is plucked from a 1.92 hectare cru with limestone and marl soils growing vines an average age of 45 years old. The grapes are destemmed and lightly pressed before cool maceration in tank and fermentation using native yeasts. Gentle extraction follows, and the wine settles before being racked into barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. The process culminates with aging on the lees over 15 to 18 months with 20% new French oak.
Rich notes of dark cherry and wild raspberry with hints of rose petals and lavender on the nose. On the palate is a lucious core of fruit with undertones of vanilla and soft dusty tannins. This punches well above its price point. Do not be disappointed by missing out on this hidden gem.
