2021 Alphonse Mellot 'Le Paradis' Sancerre
From the legendary Mellot family, dating back to 1513, 'Le Paradis' Sancerre is an electrifying expression of Sauvignon Blanc grown on the famed “terres blanches” soils of Sancerre. Crafted biodynamically, this 96-point masterpiece delivers stunning complexity from 90+ year-old vines.
Expect Korean pear, white grapefruit, honeydew, jalapeño, and crushed river rocks, all tied together with zippy brightness and a saline, mineral finish. A wine of rare finesse and longevity, this is a true benchmark of the Loire.
Sip now or cellar for a decade—either way, it's paradise in a glass.
Tasting Panel
Organic and biodynamically farmed vines were planted in 1928. A burst of chalky minerality intermixes with a bright Jalapeño. Medium-bodied and focused, offering up early-season crunchy pear, seagrass, honeydew melon and positively bracing acidity and more mineral tension on an everlasting finish. Wonderfully complex.
