Yamhill Close is defined by its striking geology—a layered tapestry of fractured basalt interwoven with silt, clay, and scattered pebbles. In this rare terrain, vine roots find their way into the rock’s delicate fractures, accessing pockets of clay and a unique micro-biome that fosters a profound sense of tension in the wine. The result is a vineyard that thrives on balance, where the rugged structure of basalt meets the vitality of the fruit it anchors, creating a dynamic interplay of depth and energy. Yamhill Close stands as a true testament to the power of place and the harmony of opposites.

Rose & Arrow Estate is a visionary project redefining Pinot Noir in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The collaboration of Pedro Parra, a global expert in terroir, and Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, a renowned Burgundian winemaker, alongside Felipe Ramirez, has resulted in wines that reflect the profound connection between vine and rock. The estate’s vineyards, planted on rare folds of ancient basalt, are cultivated biodynamically to amplify the purity of the land’s expression. Each cuvée is a study in harmony, embodying contrasts such as stability and growth, simplicity and complexity. Rose & Arrow’s philosophy celebrates the geological and natural forces that shape wine, crafting single-origin Pinot Noirs that honor both the individuality of their parcels and the timeless story of the land.

Deep magenta. Spice- and mineral-tinged cherry, mulberry, candied violet and licorice scents reveal sharp detail and a touch of smokiness. Juicy, penetrating red and dark berry, fruitcake and espresso flavors show superb depth as well as energy and definition. The impressively long, nervy finish features mounting tannins and repeating dark berry and floral notes.

From the Less Stevens Vineyard and pouring a nearly opaque red, the 2019 Pinot Noir Hopewell Hills is woodsy with aromas of sandalwood, kirsch, moss-covered earth, and fresh leather. Medium to full-bodied, it takes on crunchy fruit, with snappy fresh acidity and an orange citrus-tinged finish. It’s elegant and long on the palate and will do well with another year or two in bottle. Drink 2025-2040.revealing loads of cassis, blue fruits, scorched earth, baking spices, and subtle chocolate oak that define the aromatics, and it’s full-bodied on the palate, with a forward, voluptuous mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It plays in the ripe, forward, sexy style of the vintage and will drink brilliantly over the coming 15 years or more
