2019 Montagu 'The Baron' Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford

$99.95

The Baron from Montagu is rich and inviting, full bodied with fine-grained and integrated tannins. Rich flavors of red and black currants, plums and mulberries create a luscious texture that culminates with a layered finish.
The 2019 vintage marked a sea change at Montagu Wines in philosophy, technique and ultimately, quality. Pick dates were made earlier with the aim of lower brix and higher acid. Adding freshness and balance to the rich character of Montagu. These lower alcohols were also complimented by an additional racking which allowed the wine to harmonize earlier and also add, through this controlled introduction of oxygen, some additional life and verve to the wine. This has allowed the wine to be more rounded and polished without losing ageability.
This is the first vintage that Montagu has added any blending varietals to the Cabernet Sauvignon. Petit Verdot from Rutherford was added to both Cabernet Sauvignons: The Baron and The Cygnet. This Petit Verdot added focus, depth and length to the wine and compliments the Cabernet Sauvignon’s texture and breadth

Starting with the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Baron, which includes 10% Petit Verdot, this rich, chewy, mouth-filling effort offers tons of ripe black cherry and plum fruits as well as chocolate and assorted spices. It’s a chewy, fruit-driven Cabernet to drink over the coming decade.
